At least a dozen tornadoes struck Texas on Tuesday, and Tornado season is just getting started.
Tuesday’s twisters ranged from EF2 to EF3 - only two ratings from the strongest.
EF3 tornadoes in Texas are rare; in total, there were none recorded in 2011, 3 in 2010, 1 in 2009 and none again in 2008.
This year’s tornado season promises to be a tough one across the United States. 
In March, 223 tornadoes were recorded, significantly higher than the average of 80. February recorded 63 twisters versus the normal average of 29. January kicked off the year with 97, far higher than the average of 35.
The normal peak season for U.S. tornadoes runs from April through June.

The 4.5 was one of 10 earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater to strike the island in over 25 years.
Northern California was struck by at least two quakes on Thursday. A 4.0 magnitude quake was followed by a 3.8 aftershock hours later. Both were centered near Berkley.

98 percent of the state is ranked as D4 - the highest category from NOAA’s drought monitor. The remainder of the state is listed as D3.
Over 90 percent of neighboring Oklahoma has extreme drought. Georgia is also under heavy drought.
Areas most  impacted by the drought include agriculture,  wildlife, public health, water supply and, as evidence by the Texas wildfires, fire.
Forecasters have said the drought could last up to a decade.
