Incredibly, we’ve added 1 billion people in just 12 years. For comparison, there were only 2.5 billion people worldwide in 1950.
Can the planet sustain such massive increases? The highest growth rates remain within developing countries where hunger and access to water are life-threatening realities.
Doomsday aside, the Earth is estimated to surpass 8 billion people by 2025.
