The Zombie Apocalypse may have just started in Florida.

In a truly sickening crime, a former high school football star was found naked on a Miami roadway this weekend literally eating another man’s head.

The victim lost over 80% of his face in the attack and was still listed in critical condition three days later.

It took several bullets to get the attacker to stop - and then, only when he actually died. The first couple of shots appeared to have no effect at all.

Authorities say the cheap street version of LSD known as ‘bath salts’ is to blame for the cannibalistic behavior.

A local policeman claims that at least four other attacks have happened in South Florida due to bath salts. In each case the attackers displayed ‘super-human’ behaviors and used their jaws as weapons.

An asteroid is buzzing very close to Earth today.

Only newly discovered, asteroid 2012 KT42 is flying at the approximate same distance from Earth as the man-made satellites that circle the globe.

Somewhere between 3 and 10 meters wide, astronomers have not been able to completely predict the orbit of the rock.

However, if it does drop into our atmosphere, KT42 should not cause significant damage as it will likely break into many smaller pieces.

The asteroid ranks #6 on the top 20 list of closest approaches to our planet. Yikes.

Turns out the 2012 doomsday prophecy about Planet X may be right after all.

A planet four times the size of Earth may be skirting the edges of our solar system beyond Pluto, according to new research.

And yes, this is coming from reputable sources.

The new discovery comes from Rodney Gomes, a noted astronomer at the National Observatory of Rio de Janeiro. He’s legit.

Scientists who were at his reveal find his data compelling but most remain doubtful there’s any threat to Earth.

Gomes based the calculations of his discovery on the behavior of space bodies - mostly ice - around Neptune.

So, all those ‘crazies’ who’ve been talking about Planet X may have at least part of their doomsday scenarios right.

But is it a threat to life on Earth? Time will tell.

A pilot spotted a UFO over Denver last week.

While not picked up on radar, the private pilot claimed to barely avoid a head-on crash at 8,000 feet.

There is audio evidence of the incident through cockpit recordings; the pilot can be heard talking to air traffic control and speculating about the object.

The FAA has discounted the claiming saying there was no evidence of any unidentified objects in the sky that night.

A powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck near Bologna, Italy on Sunday morning.

At least six people were killed and dozens more were injured. Thousands were forced to leave their homes for shelter.

Farmlands and small towns took the brunt of the quake as many historic buildings were damaged or destroyed.

Although Italy is prone to earthquakes the temblor struck in the Padania plains, an area that had not appeared risky in the past.

Over the course of Sunday multiple aftershocks continued to cause damage. The aftershocks are expected to continue over the next several days and weeks.

Animals continue to die off the coast of South America, and scientists are blaming climate change.

Over the past week, at least 2,300 dead birds were found along the coast of Chile. Dozens of types of birds washed ashore, with many captured in fisherman’s nets.

Just last week we reported the deaths of over 1,400 pelicans along the shores of Peru. Reported numbers have now surpassed 5,000, and Peruvian authorities are also blaming warmer than normal waters.

Peruvian authorities state there is an abundance of warm water running through marine currents across the globe, altering the marine ecosystem.

And, on Monday morning, Chile and Peru started the week with a 6.2 magnitude earthquake along their border. Related?

Does the Mayan calendar actually run thousands of years into the future?

Archeologists have uncovered a new group of Mayan murals and etchings under the Guatemalan jungle which may contradict 2012 theories.

The team from National Geographic discovered the artwork inside a small home or workspace in a Mayan village initially discovered in 1915.

Murals depict ancient royalty, while etchings reveal a lunar table and a ring number, which the Maya used as a base date for planetary cycles. The designs may show dates as far as 7,000 years beyond December 21, 2012.

The real question to 2012 believers: Are these paintings the final word, or the musings of a rogue cave painter?

Earthquakes are increasing dramatically across the continental U.S.

Is fracking to blame? The average number of quakes per year of magnitude 3 or greater has increased by six-fold in 2011:

1970-2000: 213 - 30 year total
2001-2008: 293 - 7 year total
2009: 50
2010: 87
2011: 134

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a process that creates fractures in rock to better extract oil and natural gas.

Currently, scientists say there is no conclusive examples linking fracking activity to the triggering of notable earthquakes, even when located near a known fault.

Did NASA capture a UFO circling the sun on April 24?

The photographic “proof” was snapped by NASA’s SOHO, the Solar & Heliospheric Observatory. The satellite launched in 1995 studies the Sun.

Scientists say the cameras have only caught a glimpse of cosmic waste, not the Hollywood ship it may appear. This was confirmed by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.

Nathan Rich, the lead ground systems engineer in the NRL’s solar branch, says the streaks in question are consistent with energetic particles apparent in just about every image.

Still, the object really is shaped like a spaceship.

The butterfly of doom is invading the northeastern U.S.

New York City is aflutter as thousands of Red Admiral butterflies visit.

Normally, the butterfly is just seen for a few days at the end of May as it migrates from South America to Canada.

This year the butterfly is making itself known in New York, Ohio, New Jersey and elsewhere with counts as high as ten times the norm.

The ‘butterfly of doom’ dates back to a similarly strong migration in Russia in 1881 that marked the start of the Revolution and assassination of Tsar Alexander II.

Here’s hoping this influx isn’t signaling such bad news.

Peru is warning people to stay off its beaches following mass animal deaths.

Over 1,400 pelicans and 800 dolphins have washed ashore in the northern part of the country, and the cause is currently unknown.

While they have not yet banned people, the health ministry highly cautions against visiting the beaches.

The dead animals have been found along 100 miles of north Pacific shoreline, including the coast around the capital, Lima.

Initial reports state that the dolphins may have been killed by a virus, but so far there is no explanation for the pelicans.

Although scientists told us otherwise, millions of people thought this weekend’s supermoon would spark global disaster.

Some people still blame last year’s 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami on a March 9, 2011 supermoon event. It came just two days before the devastating quake.

Gravitational pull did increase during this year’s event because the moon was also at its closest point to Earth for the year. And while tides were about 42% stronger, scientists say the overall effects were negligible.

And so far so good as the planet has remained relatively quiet.

A case of mad cow disease was discovered in California this week.

This is the fourth known case in U.S. history and the first since 2006. Authorities claim the cow was not meant to enter the nation’s food supply.

Mad cow disease is fatal to bovines and can be similarly fatal to humans who eat tainted beef.

The infected cow was found during an Agriculture Department program that tests about 40,000 cows a year.

According to the USDA, there were 90.8 million head of cattle in the U.S. as of January 1, 2012. So, one of 40,000 out of 90.8 million possible cattle was found to have mad cow disease.

There were quite a few cows left untested. We’re just saying.

A meteor was seen and heard over Nevada and northern California on Sunday.

People reported seeing a ball of fire across about a 600-mile swath over cities like Reno, North Las Vegas, San Francisco and Sacramento.

No earthquakes were recorded at the same time, around 8am PT, but thousands reported hearing a loud boom that shook windows and set off alarms.

Scientists say the fireball occurred because the meteor exploded as it passed into our atmosphere, and witnesses call it a dazzling display of green, white and red colors.

Seen just hours after the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower, a meteor seen during daylight hours would likely be the size of a softball.

Although most people felt the sting of Clark’s passing April 18, we also heard a lot of tongue-in-cheek comments: Is his passing a sign there will be no 2013?
